In Our Own Refuge:
1) Birds Watching Tour.
Our refuge counts with an exuberant birds gallery of about 200 species, including some mi grator y species on certain seasons. But the most important thing is that most of them live right here all year round and you can see them all day long. You have the opportunity to take the tour at different times of the day; our first official tour starts at 5:30 am. And requires previous reservation and as a reward for those early risers we will include breakfast, although you can also take the tour at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm. |
2) Night Walk In The Forest
On this tour you have the opportunity to see the other face of the forest and experience th at side o f the nature that not everybody knows. This night walk starts just before dark and the main subjects are insects, reptiles and amphibious, nocturnal mammals, glowing fungi, spiders and more. Also one of the main attractions is the “Cantarrana” or “Frog Song”, where you learn about the amphibious history and some of the most popular nocturnal species like the glass frog, the red eye tree frog, the bullfrog, the facemask frog and other jewel of the forest. This tour starts at 5:45 pm, at the refuge.

3) Natural History Walk
This super tour includes all the subjects of the refuge. We will talk about tropical plants and we wi ll visit our butterfly garden to learn about the butterflies and their cycle of live, survival techniques, functions in the forest and more, after that we will proceed to enter our trails where we have different stations with insects, arthropods, tarantulas, snakes, lizards and frogs. On each one of this you will learn about the relationships in between them and the nature, importance and functions in the ecosystems, importance for the human beans, use of medicinal herbs and others.
This tour starts at the refuge at 8:00 am , 10:00 am , 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

In The Area:
1) Volcano Hiking Tour
This tour is for all those interested in the natural life of the tropical rain forest that surr ou nds a wonderful active volcano like the Arenal.You start traveling in one of our great mini vans for about 20 minutes, meanwhile our tour guide will give some information about the tour and the region. Once we arrive to the trails the tour guide will tell you and explain you about the flora and fauna of the area that surrounds the bottom of the magnificent Arenal volcano. The hike will stop at the “Mirador” or “Over Look”, where you will hear a very interesting story and with a little luck you will see an incredible view of the Arenal Volcano, active since 1968. After that if you desire we will end the tour with a visit to one of the nearest hot spring waters, so you can relax and enjoy after all that hike on one of the most relaxing and popular places of the region.

2) Safari Float in a Canoe, Kayak or a Raft
Animals like sloths, porcupines, monkeys, caimans, alligators, egrets, bats and much m ore lives in the sides of the rivers. This tour is excellent to enjoy the flora and fauna that habitat the tranquil waters of the rivers Arenal and Penas Blancas.It will be a half day of joy and fun with our naturalist guides also experts in water sports and activities |
3) Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge The Cano Negro and Rio Frio rivers form one of the richest wetlands of Costa R ic a, it is pos sible to find a great variety of local and migratory birds species, also there are three types of monkeys, green iguanas, sloth, caimans, alligators and turtles. The tour starts with one and a half hour of traveling time to Los Chiles, a small town located at only 4 kilometers from the border with Nicaragua, up there we will get a board of a boat to travel for two and a half hours trough the wetlands of the tropical rain forest. Our expert guide will show us the diverse flora and fauna. |
4) Arenal Hanging Bridges This place is designed to discover the different angles of the forest, the trails offer to the lovers of the nature an incredible view trough 15 hanging bridges, their lengths varied from 5 to 100 meters, in a loop of 3 kilometers trough the tropical humid forest, with incredible views and an unforgettable experience |
5) Venado Caves Tour For those who don’t care about getting wet and dirty, this is a great underground adventure, at only 45 minutes from our Eco Lodge, we will take you trough tight pass ages and incredible undergro und cree ks an d rooms where we can see the great formations of a Papaya and stalagmites and stalactites that will amaze anyone. Some spiders and bats are some of habitants of these caves. This caves were form 15-20 millions of years ago during the Miocene period, for thousands of years they were under the sea and came up to the surface due to tectonic movements of the Cocos and Caribbean plaques. The Guatuzo Indians discovered them, caliza rocks, stalagmites, stalactites and corals form most of the caves, and the enigmatic formation of rocks was formed by an underground river.

6) Cerro Chato Hike Cerro Chato is a Volcano located southeast of the Arenal Volcano. It is his older brothe r. It reaches a height of 1140 meters over the sea level, it has crater of about 500 to 550 meters of diameter, with a lagoon of 250 meters from north to south and 150 meters form east to west, and 18.8 meters dip. In this tour we will travel to the other side of the mountain for about 40 minutes then we are going to start climbing to reach the top trough a dense primary forest, we will visit the lagoon, we will see birds, plants, animals, giant trees, insects and a great view of the San Carlos valley and Arenal Volcano, then we will visit La Fortuna Waterfall and its beautiful surroundings |

In The Area:
1) Horse Back Riding To La Fortuna Waterfall This tour takes about three and half hours on a distance of two and half kilometers, after one hour of horse back riding we will arrive to the horse’s rest area. The views of San Carlos Valley and tropical forest are s pectacular from there, after enjoying the scenery we will start walking trough the forest and climb down to the bottom of the waterfall, which has a fall 70 meters, at the base of the waterfall there is a natural pool where you can swim |
2) Sarapiqui White Water Rafting The Sarapiqui River is well known for the scenery of the Costa Rican rain for est; in parallel the river runs a main highway that is very important in case of an emergency or in case of an eventual evacuation. This river has about 35 kilometers of white water rafting, the first section is class IV, recommended for experts and people in good physical condition, the next 13 kilometers are class II and III, recommended for people from ages of 9 to 60 years, and the last section is really calm, where you can enjoy of a nice ride on the raft and we call that a safari on the river.

3) Tirolinas Canopy Tour An adventure in the highest of the forest full of adrenaline. This experience starts wit h a short trip from the Lodge to the Tirolinas Canopy Installations, once we arrive there we will walk to the first platform, the tour guides will inspect every piece of equipment and train you on how to use it properly, safety is the number one rule here, all of our guides are properly trained and certified, after you get ready our guide will explain how to slide on de line and how to brake at the other end, you will experience a flying sensation that is unique, all the cables and platforms are designed so you can enjoy the panoramic views and possible see some animals and birds.

4) Mountain Biking Tour This tour is for those who want adventure trough the forest around the Volcano and Aren a l Lake.
